On October 8, 10 and 11, our Made to Create Team is privileged to host a team of educators from the Mitra Residential School, Kachapaju Christian Hospital, Bissamcuttack, Rayagada District in Southern Orissa. Their story is awe-inspiring, we are so privileged to have been invited to present a workshop with them. Here is an introductory statement in a pamphlet describing the history of the school:
The original idea of a school for Adivasi children was first conceived in a Community Dreaming Session in Kachapaju Village, in May 1997.
Here are some of the preparations for the first day:
Jimmy, a free-lance artists in Delhi whose father is from Nagaland and his mother from Orissa, is preparing a sample diya for a painting lesson we conducted with the girls from Diverson/Horizon House as a model for the Orissa team.
Shalem is preparing an example for a project using oil pastels.
Young Mi, our artist friend visiting from Los Angeles for the month of October, is preparing to take photos of the day's activities.
Chuck, is busy preparing in his own unique way!
Members of the Made to Create Team also participating, but not pictured above: Moumita, a free-lance artist in Delhi; Nirakar, a free-lance artist from Orissa, currently in Delhi and working with the Art for Change Foundation; and Janis.
